Samskaras are the rites or practices enshrined and ordained in scriptures to guide an individual toward a proper sense of duty and obligation during the various stages of life. They create a religious atmosphere conducive to the maintenance of virtuous tendencies. In vaisnava dharma, the birth of a child is considered a religious activity. Samskaras begin prior to birth and end with the cremation of the body following death. Some of the most significant samskars are :
- garbhadhana (conception)
- jatakarma (birth of a child)
- namakarana (naming a child)
- annaprasana (giving the child grains for the first time)
- mundan (shaving the head)
- upanayana (sacred thread ceremony)
- vivaha (marriage)
- anthyeshti (cremation)
garbhadhana (conception)
We can call it the conception ceremony. There are certain Do’s and Don’ts during the period of the woman, which are of great psychological significance. Husband and wife usually chant 50 rounds and engage in devotional activities, which are essentially prayers offered to the Lord to help them conceive a good soul.
namakarana (naming a child)
The naming of a child is one of the most fundamental "samskaras" or rites based on scripture. The name is selected such that its meaning can inspire the child to follow the path of righteousness. The name given to a newborn baby is generally suggestive of divine qualities of the vedic deities.
A common practice among Vaishnavas is to name their children after the names of sages, saints, holy rivers, deities, and the names of the incarnation of God. By repeatedly calling such names, one is reminded of the Lord.
Therefore, we present here a list of names for naming your devotee chidren, whether BOYS or GIRLS.
